When I left for work Monday morning it was a refreshing 62 degrees, and it was the first day that it finally felt like Fall. It was glorious….even though by 3pm it was up to 89 degrees. Gotta love North Carolina seasons! Nevertheless, those few brief moments of under 70 degree weather were a signal that we are officially leaving Summer. Over the weekend we saw the return of college football, the ubiquitous pumpkin spice latte, and Halloween candy. Yes, Fall is here.
I love lots of things about this season. I love how it brings us closer together around pots of slow simmered soups and stews, and how our creativity blossoms as we start designing autumnal tablescapes and front porch decor. I have really fond memories of my mom during this season, making a batch of her chicken, potato, and corn chowder, and decorating the house with pumpkins and glittery leaf garlands.
Even though, I’ve never made her famous chowder, I do love to decorate (as you all know.) In terms of Fall decorating in the Ogle household we decorate for Halloween early and then on Nov. 1, roll out all of the Thanksgiving decor. Halloween decorating is just so much fun. I don’t really get into all of the scary or bloody decorations, and I don’t really do yard decor, but I do love a good wreath.
I spent some time this weekend making a new Halloween wreath with some sparkly goodies I got from Michaels. I had a brief moment of frustration when making it, because I thought I was going to need more deco mesh.
I made it work though!
Yes, my front door really is THAT red, and no I don’t regret it. Be bold with you’re front door. It’s one of the few places on you’re house’s facade that you can really make a statement. When I painted our front door red, one of my neighbors came to me and said that I had inspired her to do the same, and she painted hers a lovely nautical blue. You can start a chain reaction that will turn your cul-de-sac into a veritable rainbow, just by switching up your door color.
But I’ve digressed.
I did want to let you all know that Michaels is having a killer 30% off deal on their Halloween picks and garlands through the end of this week. So, if you are feeling inspired, grab a pumpkin spice latte and make a run to the craft store!
Love the wreath, Kat! Don’t know when purple and bright green got into the Halloween color palette, but I do like the combination with black and orange!
